We Ratified Our Tentative Agreement UNANIMOUSLY!
Big thanks to everyone who voted to ratify our tentative agreement! We are excited to report back that the TA was ratified unanimously. That’s right–you voted by 100% to ratify!
That means that once the OUSD Board of Education and Alameda County Office of Education approve the TA in the coming weeks, this will become our new contract.
Oakland Unified School District Classified Staff Win Strong Tentative Agreement
After months of tough negotiations, SEIU 1021 members came out on top
After months of negotiating, the SEIU 1021 Oakland Unified School District bargaining team has pushed through unprecedented adversity and reached a tentative agreement for a strong two-year contract with OUSD management. The TA is particularly notable given the challenges of the last year, including the extra workload and stressors that COVID has brought, talk of school closures, impending layoffs, the threat of a state takeover, and economic inflation.
The tentative agreement, which will go to a ratification vote of the membership later in March, includes:

Your bargaining team was committed to the negotiations process and sacrificed countless hours away from our families to fight for fair wages and improved working conditions for our members.
OUSD Chapter Bargaining Update: We Are Close to an Agreement!
Your bargaining team and OUSD management made tremendous progress at the bargaining table this week, and we anticipate reaching a substantive deal in the coming days that will benefit our members, including:

OUSD Chapter Bargaining Update: Management Refuses to Bargain as We Continue to Fight for COVID Safety Measures and Living Wages
Your bargaining team met again yesterday, Wednesday, Jan. 26, and OUSD management refused to bargain.
Our team is disappointed and feels this is disrespectful to the process and to our members when we have such immediate needs (living wages and COVID safety concerns) that must be addressed.
They dismissed our offer and failed to provide a counter proposal. We are encouraged by our members to keep pressing forward.
WHEN WE STAND TOGETHER, WE WIN!
Jan. 19, 2022 OUSD Chapter Bargaining Update
Your bargaining team met again on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and we spent a full day in negotiations. We are pleased to report that we’re finally making some progress in a number of areas.
With the power of our entire membership behind us, we are seeing positive movement from OUSD management on important issues of wages, longevity pay, reviving the Clerical Mentorship Program, and securing more paid training for many staff.
URGENT Bargaining Update: As COVID Surges, OUSD Management Continues to Refuse to Negotiate on Safety
With COVID surging once again in our schools and community, you
would think that OUSD management would finally be ready to talk
seriously about safety. Yet they continue to put the health and
lives of OUSD employees, students, and our families on the line
by refusing to bargain on COVID safety.
In fact, despite the bargaining team hustling tirelessly for six
months to get a fair contract, there has been precious little
movement at the table:
