Worker power wins again!
Dixon Unified School District classified employees ratify hard-fought agreement
In another example of workers uniting to achieve victory, Dixon Unified School District (DUSD) classified employees ratified a hard-fought tentative agreement on May 31, with 97% of voting members voting YES.
Following a historic vote to authorize a strike on May 3 and then a rally May 18 at the Dixon school board meeting, where classified staff and allies demanded the district address high turnover and short staffing caused by inadequate wages, the once largely inflexible board seems to have experienced a wake-up call.
We got a tentative agreement!
Ratification vote scheduled for May 31
SUMMARY OF TENTATIVE AGREEMENT (as of 5/23/23)
Great news! We reached an agreement that the bargaining team is proud to bring to you all and recommend a “YES” vote! A HUGE thank you to the bargaining team for all their hard work at the table and our membership’s willingness to step up and show up (over and over) to school board meetings and make their voices heard. Here is the agreement:
Dixon USD classified workers demand better for students and staff
Workers unite to tell the school board to bargain in good faith
Dixon Unified School District classified workers are speaking out and showing up! On Thursday, May 18, Dixon USD classified employees and allies attended the Dixon school board meeting to demand the district take urgent action to address high turnover and short staffing caused by inadequate wages.
Dixon Unified Schools classified workers vote to authorize strike
The district’s lowest-paid employees, including paraprofessionals, nutrition service workers, clerical staff, and custodians, are demanding the district take urgent action to address high turnover and short staffing caused by inadequate wages
May 3, the Dixon Unified School District (DUSD) chapter announced the results of votes by members to authorize a strike — a first for this chapter. A large majority of members – who work as paraprofessionals supporting the district’s special-needs students, nutrition service workers who make sure Dixon students get hot meals every day, staff who keep Dixon schools running smoothly, and custodians, campus monitors, grounds and maintenance staff who keep the schools clean and safe, and various other classified staff – voted yes.
SEIU 1021 Dixon Unified Chapter Strike Assessment
To get the contract we need to retain and recruit staff at Dixon Unified, we are going to have to take collective action to show we are UNITED and ready to FIGHT! It will take ALL OF US!
Despite our bargaining team’s hard work over 11 months of
negotiations, the Dixon Unified School District has not settled a
fair contract with their classified employees. Despite giving
huge raises to administrators, the District is only offering a 3%
raise for classified staff (in addition to the 5% that was given
in June of 2022). Dixon USD has $2.73 million above the reserves
required by the State of California, but they are refusing to
give us a fair contract.
Responses due by April 14, 2023.
Dixon Unified School District classified staff pack school board meeting to demand living wage
The Dixon Unified School District school board meeting was flooded with a sea of purple last Thursday, March 2, as over 65 classified employees packed the chambers to share their stories during public comment and show support for their bargaining team, who have been negotiating a successor contract for 11 months.
