Support Barbara Lee, Kara Murray-Badal, and the half-cent sales tax
Ballots will drop for Oakland’s April 15 special election in just weeks, and SEIU 1021 members are hitting the streets to make a difference. This election is vital, with Oakland trying to dig out of a long-standing budget issue. It’s all hands on deck to elect Barbara Lee as the Town’s next mayor, alongside Kara Murray-Badal as District 2 councilmember, while passing the vital half-cent sales tax to stabilize revenues and beat back layoff threats.
SEIU 1021 shows up for Barbara Lee
On Saturday, February 8, hundreds of Oaklanders, including a proud contingent from SEIU 1021, turned out to help Barbara Lee launch her field campaign to become Oakland’s next mayor.
When Lee addressed the diverse crowd, she pledged to be “a hands-on mayor,” saying she would not tolerate people not receiving the services they deserve. She highlighted her extensive experience and got big cheers with her stated goal of bringing people together to address Oakland’s vital needs as a united group.
SEIU 1021 endorses Congresswoman Barbara Lee for Oakland mayor
As Congresswoman Barbara Lee campaigns for Oakland’s mayoral seat, her candidacy has sparked widespread excitement among SEIU 1021 members, particularly within the City of Oakland chapter. Known for her decades-long advocacy for social, racial, and economic justice, Lee has received an enthusiastic endorsement from SEIU 1021 as city workers prepare for critical contract negotiations amid a looming budget deficit.
