Governor Gavin Newsom officially signed SB 525 into law on October 13, marking a monumental win for healthcare workers nationwide. This victory is a testament to the power of collective action and dedicated advocacy. 

This groundbreaking legislation, a top priority for SEIU 1021, ensures a better future for healthcare workers and patients alike by raising the minimum wage for healthcare heroes to $25/hour over the next few years. In 2024, community clinic workers will see their minimum pay rise to $21, followed by $22 in 2026, and ultimately reaching $25 in 2027. Workers in large health facilities and dialysis clinics will also benefit, with their minimum wage increasing to $23/hour in the upcoming year, followed by $24 in 2024, and finally $25 in 2025.
