SEIU California Ballot Measure Endorsements:
To Increase Affordable Housing Opportunities, Members Say: YES on 2 and 10 and NO on 5
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in California today announced its positions on ballot measures for the November 2018 General Election. The 700,000 member organization of California’s working people took the following positions:
Proposition 2: YES
Proposition 5: NO
Proposition 6: NO
Proposition 8: YES
Proposition 9: NO
Proposition 10: YES
Proposition 11: NO
“Skyrocketing housing and rental costs hurt California families as they struggle to make ends meet. Delivering relief to families who are worried about housing insecurity is a top concern for SEIU members. That means allowing communities to demand relief from soaring rents at the local level and delivering housing with mental health services to alleviate chronic homelessness. SEIU Members say YES on Propositions 2 and 10,” said Roxanne Sanchez, President, SEIU California. “At the same time, SEIU members will work hard to defeat Prop 5, a boon to the real estate industry that comes at the cost of massive cuts to schools and local services communities value.”
“With our positions on ballot measures, SEIU members continue to lead the way in standing up for patients with quality healthcare jobs,” Sanchez added. “As the leading proponents on Proposition 8, we are standing up to a greedy industry that puts dialysis patients at risk. And we stand united with Emergency Medical Technicians against Proposition 11, a cynical move by the ambulance industry to undermine basic workplace protections for hard-working emergency responders.”
“By urging Californians to vote NO on Prop 6, SEIU members support much-needed repairs and improvements to local roads, state highways, and public transportation,” Sanchez concluded.
