Applications are now open for the next Member Internship Program
Take your knowledge and skills as a union member to the next level: apply to our Member Internship Program.
The deadline to apply for the Summer 2022 program is
February 28, 2022.
The Internship for Leader Development program works to empower
and develop the next generation of leaders seeking to gain
knowledge and real-world union experience.
This program is intended for new and aspiring member leaders who
can come out on full release time. During this 3
month internship, member interns will get to experience
firsthand learning opportunities in recruitment, leadership
development, mobilization, and organizing skills.
You will come off the job and have the opportunity to do
full-time union work in various settings, such as:
- Contract negotiations and enforcement
- Issue-focused campaigns
- Building workplace leadership structures
- Expanding our political power
- Organizing new workers
If you are ready to gain a wide range of experience to become a better-equipped advocate and organizer, apply by completing the application. You’ll need to upload a sponsorship letter from a chapter leader or field representative who has reviewed the application, which must explain why the applicant is being recommended for the internship program.

Amanda Ayers, a Child Support Services member from San Joaquin County, said “The member intern program has been a valuable asset to me. I have obtained tools that will help me mobilize workers to action, as well as how to have those hard one-on-one conversations. As a steward, this program has helped me feel confident and well educated on ways to increase membership and keep everyone engaged! The value of the program is incomparable and a definite recommend for all union workplace leaders!”
