La Clínica workers picket across the East Bay
Hundreds of La Clínica de la Raza workers picketed outside nearly a dozen worksites across the East Bay on Monday, December 16, to protest mismanagement and understaffing.
After rallies across worksites in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties and countless contract bargaining sessions since June, these workers have had enough. That’s why they recently held a multi-day strike vote, which resulted in a 98% vote to authorize the bargaining team to call a strike if necessary. And it’s why they used their lunch break to walk a picket line on Monday, despite the cold, wet, windy conditions.
They’re calling on CEO Jane Garcia to keep care accessible and ensure that La Clínica supports families including the families of La Clínica workers.
They need safe staffing to help patients and reduce burnout, investments in La Clínica’s workforce to retain workers and a fair contract that lets La Clínica workers provide high-quality care that is culturally appropriate, and they won’t stop marching until they get it!
