Over 500 SEIU 1021 members celebrate solidarity & wins at San Francisco unity event
Spirits were high last Friday, January 26, as roughly 550 SEIU 1021 members and their guests packed the elegant Continental Ballroom at the Hilton Union Square for the 2024 San Francisco unity event.
The annual party allowed members from San Francisco City and County’s many agencies, public hospitals, nonprofit organizations, museums, and public school and community college districts to mix and mingle.
“Our unity event was a great occasion for our members to get together outside of work to celebrate our victories together and build solidarity for the fights we have ahead of us this year,” said SEIU 1021 San Francisco Regional Vice President Kristin Hardy.
“The members of 1021 usually only get to interact with each other at their worksites, and this yearly event is a way for all SEIU members to network. Events like these are an opportunity to meet members working in other places, facing struggles that may be similar to ours or different that we can support each other in. Building networks of solidarity is what our unity parties are all about.”
In addition to enjoying the bar and buffet, unity party attendees hit the dance floor as the DJ played a variety of hits. There was plenty of laughter as well: Oakland-based comedian Jerry Law emceed the event and introduced a lineup of other local comedians. SF VP Kristin Hardy also presented awards to numerous longtime members who have contributed to the union’s success.
