Brothers and Sisters of Local 1021,
This past November, after two years of discussion and development, Local 1021 members approved official bylaws for our new local. Two months ago, in May, the 1021 Executive Board established a committee to
look into amending those bylaws.
You may wonder why this is necessary so soon. The answer is that, for various reasons, the original bylaws committee was not able to complete
its work. For one thing, we ran out of time. The Department of Labor
requires new locals to elect officers within three years of being formed, which
meant adopting bylaws in enough time to hold officer elections. Despite this deadline, any discussion on structuring a new local that was wider and
more diverse than most of us had ever known -- geographically, culturally, occupationally, and politically -- could not be rushed. So, our work continues.

Vice-President Larry Bradshaw's introductory
remarks explaining what the process will look like.
The Bylaws Committee is looking for feedback, questions, commentary, and suggestions about language for bylaws revisions from the members. Communications in a local the size of ours is a challenge. This website enables anyone with computer access to get in touch with the bylaws committee, and is one small step towards improved responsiveness.
